About NLBGuide
An independent resource dedicated to helping Singapore residents make full use of the public library system and its digital learning ecosystem.
What This Site Is
NLBGuide is a practical information resource focused on Singapore's National Library Board system, its digital platforms, and the broader landscape of free and low-cost learning resources available to residents and long-term expats.
The site exists because despite NLB being genuinely excellent — one of the most digitally advanced public library systems in Asia — many of its benefits are poorly communicated. The NLB website itself is comprehensive but navigating it to understand exactly what you get and how to use it is not always straightforward.
This site aims to be the practical companion: plain-language guides on how to register, what platforms are included, what the libraries near you actually offer, and how to use all of it as part of a deliberate approach to learning.
Our Approach to Information
All content on this site is written based on direct research — reviewing official NLB documentation, testing the platforms described, and drawing on publicly available information from Singapore government sources.
We cite sources where information is specific (borrowing quotas, fees, platform catalogues) and note when information may have changed since publication. Each article carries a "last updated" date and we revise content when policies or platforms change.
We are not affiliated with the National Library Board of Singapore, SkillsFuture Singapore, or any of the platforms discussed on this site. This is not a sponsored resource.
Who This Site Is For
The guides are written for adults who are either new to Singapore's library system or who have used it for physical borrowing but haven't explored the digital layer. That includes:
- Singapore citizens and PRs who haven't used their NLB card since school
- Expats on work or dependent passes who want to know if they're eligible
- Professionals looking to upskill without paying for courses
- Parents wanting to understand what NLB offers for children
- Anyone interested in structured self-directed learning on a budget
